Life is Good....and so is Red's Icehouse!!

So as most people know my wife, Tara, is now a medical doctor. She is starting her intern year as a resident at MUSC. Last night was a meet and greet for the internal medicine residents at a place called Red's Icehouse in Mt. Pleasant on Shem Creek. Of course we were the very first ones there as usual whenever we go anywhere. I guess the old State Trooper in me will always be early. Like I was always told if you're early, you're on time....if you're on time, you're late! So I get to meet some very nice ladies and kinda just stand there for a while waiting for food to be put out. Well the first person shows up and she was really nice, Mandy. She is starting on the same rotation with Tara. Then another shows and another person shows and it was really crowded which was nice except I can't remember everyone's name. I got to catch up with some people I am really looking forward to get to know from WVU, Joe and Holly. Everyone was really nice and friendly. The food was really good, with hush puppies, wings, fried chicken, etc and free beer/wine to go with that as well. I did have a really good time meeting people and getting to know others a little better which gives me hope that Tara and I will be able to build a close community over time. Now back to Red's Icehouse. The thing about this place is its on Shem Creek so if you have a boat you can just pull up outside and dock. What is really awesome is that dolphins swim up and down the channel!!!! So this place offers good food, good fun and friendly atmosphere, and an amazing view. I definitely look forward to getting to hang out here again. So the moral of the story is life is good....and so is Red's Icehouse!!

Life is Good....and so is Coca-Cola Cake!!!!

Hello. I wanted to keep a journal of sorts so I thought I would start this blog thing going. So this will be like a journal...a sort of look into my thoughts and feelings. So if you want to know what I think feel free to read. Anyway, yesterday Tara and my great friends David and Janine Brown came to Charleston, SC for work. We wanted to go out to eat and after some great suggestions we thought we would try out a place called Jestine's Kitchen on Meeting Street. After seeing this place on a couple TV shows I knew there was probably going to be a line but the food would be worth it. So we go around 6:45 pm and yes there was a line but it wasn't that long. Tara and I had been down town and seen a much longer line before so I was thankful the line was fairly "short". We really only stood in line for about 15 minutes or so but it didn't seem that long because we were in line with David and Janine and great conversation makes time fly. So we get in the cute little restaurant that has tons of pictures of Jestine all over and a nice homey feel. My usual staple of a drink is Diet Coke so when it was my turn to get a drink I ordered my usual. However, Tara, Janine and David all got sweet ice tea so I changed my order and I was not disappointed. The ice tea comes with free refills and I had about 5 of them. The waitress who was very nice brought some slices of cucumber to the table and it was so good. So time to order. I had seen on Anthony Bourdain's show No Reservations that he ordered corn fritters so I did too and it came with this pepper relish and it was really really good. For actual dinner I order the fried seafood platter with came with a fried fish (great), fried shrimp( good) and fried oysters( good too). It also came with two sides which I got mac and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. Amazing and I highly recommend the potatoes. So the food was good the atmosphere was really nice but what makes me want to go back was dessert. I had never had Coca-Cola Cake before but this was amazing cake. Probably the next best cake to Tara's and my wedding cake!!!! I may go back just to get this dessert!!!! I highly recommend this place. Prepare for a wait but the wait is so worth the dessert! After dinner we took a stroll around the water front and then made our way back to David and Janine's hotel The Mills House where we just chilled outside in the nice cool breeze which was a perfect ending to an amazing evening. Moral of of the story....life is good....and so is coca-cola cake at Jestine's Kitchen!
